Reinsurance and Captive Accountant


Responsibilities

Summary

Responsible for accounting activities relating to the processing of reinsurance premium and loss activity including captive reinsurance activity. Position involves reviewing reinsurance entry, cessions, billings and collection activities as well as reviewing reinsurance structures, contacting underwriters, product managers and claims personnel and communicating with reinsurers and external captive managers.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and other financial reports
  • Footnote disclosure for financial reporting relating to assigned areas for GAAP/SEC, Statutory, and internal reporting purposes
  • Provide analysis and reports to company’s management
  • Create and analyze accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Identify trends and developments, and communicating them to management
  • Perform a variety of tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university
  • 1-3 years working in public accounting or reinsurance role
  • Advanced database, spreadsheet, and word processing knowledge required
  • A solid, demonstrated understanding of accounting concepts
  • Ability to organize, self-prioritize, and be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment with demanding internal and external deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with high competency for identifying trends and detecting errors
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings in a clear, concise manner
Grade level 5 or 6, dependent on experience
